Individual Placement and Support (IPS) Services

SAMH’s Individual Placement and Support (IPS) Services support people with mental health problems to gain employment.

Individual Placement and Support:

  • Supports people with severe and enduring mental health problems to secure and sustain competitive employment.
  • Is tailored to individuals specific needs.
  • Is co-located with Community Mental Health Teams.
  • Has better employment outcomes than other models.

IPS is an evidence based model to support people to achieve mainstream employment in competitive jobs part time, full time or in some cases permitted working hours. This is the most well-established method of 'place then train' in mental health.

The IPS model is a well-recognised approach of supported employment. Evidence suggests that IPS has better employment outcomes than other vocational methods.
