Responding to news of the death of Scott Hastings, Billy Watson, Chief Executive of SAMH (Scottish Action for Mental Health), said:
“Scott was a Scottish rugby legend, with a whole generation of fans growing up not knowing that anyone other than he could play in the 13 jersey for Scotland.
“But his post-rugby career was arguably even more special: not just as the warm and knowledgeable commentator and pundit millions of us enjoyed listening to, but in his selfless and passionate support for causes that mattered to him and those close to him. He did so much as chair of the My Name’5 Doddie Foundation, and as ambassadors – with Jenny, his dearly-missed late wife – for our friends at Change Mental Health.
“Lately, he offered his time and support to us at SAMH – including an event last year with Sir Chris Hoy, our ambassador, and meaningful time spent together after Jenny’s passing – which meant the world.
“We send our love to his children, Kerry-Anne and Corey, and his brothers, Graeme, Gavin and Ewan, and everyone else that is grieving today.”
