Who we are

People are the heart of everything we do. As Scotland's leading mental health charity, we are here for people every day. We listen. We are compassionate. We inspire hope.

From our early beginnings in 1923, we’ve grown to employ around 550 staff and operate more than 70 services in communities across Scotland providing social care, community-based and online mental health support, employment services and much more.

Together with national programme work in See Me (anti-stigma and discrimination), respectme (anti-bullying), suicide prevention, and physical activity and sport, we are at the forefront of policy and campaign work which influences positive social change for Scotland’s mental health.

We have a variety of roles

We’re a diverse group and have many different roles. Front line teams supporting individuals and communities, fundraising colleagues, campaign and public affairs roles, support services colleagues and workplace teams all help us to be there for people with mental health problems.

Join our team to work with supportive colleagues who share the same values and believe that everyone should be treated with respect, dignity and equality.

Our support roles

The majority of colleagues provide support to individuals in the community to help them live independent, fulfilling lives. Working in social care can be challenging at times but being able to make a positive difference in people’s lives is incredibly rewarding, and a key reason why many of us to follow this career path. We believe that everyone is entitled to hope and choice, so we take a person-centred approach in everything we do.

We provide training

You don’t need qualifications or social care experience to get started in many of our roles. Instead, you can come to us with the most important skills of all – a positive attitude, compassion, dignity and respect for the people who we are here to support. If you will be working in a support role that requires a qualification and have the ability to connect with someone who may be in a difficult period in their lives, we can support you to enhance your practice skills with a fully funded professional qualification.

We offer a supportive working environment and benefits

Employers often speak about “work-life balance”, but at SAMH it’s about all about the life-work balance, where life comes first and work second. We offer a generous holiday allowance, which increases with length of service, and paid wellbeing days each year to use however you choose to support your own self-care and wellbeing. Find out more about our colleague benefits.

New to social care?
