SAMH has some amazing supporters. Here are a few who may
inspire you to follow in their footsteps and fundraise for our
vital work.
Tony Robertson Hair Spa Charity Night
SAMH would like to thank the amazing efforts of the staff from
Tony Robertson Hair Spa in Kilwinning for organising a fantastic
night of entertainment in aid of SAMH. Jane and Tony held a
fundraising evening on 17 March which included comedians, a catwalk
show and a tribute act! The night has raised over £700
so far with more to come in; thank you to everyone who made the
night such a success.
The Craig Wallace Memorial Ball
SAMH
was truly privileged to be the beneficiary of the Craig Wallace
Memorial Ball on Saturday 3 March 2012. Sadly Craig lost his
life to suicide and his family organised the Ball in his
memory. 565 people gathered at the Thistle Hotel, Glasgow to
celebrate Craig's life and raise much needed funds for the SAMH
suicide prevention national programme. £25K was raised on the
night and there is more to come in. Thank you to everyone who gave
so generously on the night. SAMH would like to thank Craig's
family for choosing to support SAMH.

A Jump for Craig
A huge thank you to Aileen and Malcom McPartlin and friends
Fiona and Jennifer for taking part in a skydive on Sunday 11th
December and raising an amazing £2,260 for SAMH's National
Programme for Suicide Prevention.
Aileen and Malcolm decided to raise funds for SAMH in memory of
their brother Craig, who lost his life to suicide nearly 2
years ago. As Craig loved the thrill of skydiving, Aileen,
Malcolm, Fiona and Jennifer decided this would be their
challenge!
A massive congratulations for completing your skydive despite
some nervousness and typical Scottish weather!

Christmas Coffee Morning!
The team at our supported accommodation service in Constitution
Street rallied together and organised a Christmas Coffee
Morning and Raffle on Saturday 10th December to raise vital funds
for SAMH.
There were lots of goodies on sale and a fantastic £350 was
raised. Well done to all involved!
Big Pink Christmas Fayre
On Saturday 10th December, Red Shed Art Collective held their
'Big Pink Christmas Fayre' in aid of SAMH, featuring the best
Crafters and Artists from across Angus.
Kevin Bruce, service manager from SAMH's gardening projects
Chrysalis and Evergreen approached Red Shed Art Collective to hold
the craft fair in Arbroath with the purpose of raising funds for
SAMH and raising awareness of our work with people with mental
health issues.
The fayre raised a fantastic £300: a great result. SAMH staff
and service users enjoyed being there selling Christmas cards and
handing out stress balls.
To everyone's delight, Andy Kershaw, broadcaster and writer,
travelled all the way from Cheshire to be there to support us. He
rolled his sleeves up and mucked in with the hard work.
Edinburgh Insurance Chief June Pennykid runs the New York
Marathon!
June Pennykid, Immediate Past President of the Insurance Society
of Edinburgh, ran the marathon on Sunday 6th November in
aid of SAMH and she hopes to raise at least £5,000!
June said,
"Mental health is very close to my heart
following a dear friend's own battle with depression. I hope that
by running the marathon, I can raise funds for SAMH and also prompt
people to think about their own mental
health".
June is over half way to
her target; can you help her reach it? Please visit

support.
Cycle Instead
In April 2011, Abi Wingate, an English teacher from
Scotland, set off on an epic cycling trip from Chiang Mai, Thailand
to Edinburgh, Scotland. Abi completed her inspirational trip
on 29th October.
After 7 months, 15,000 kilometres
(and a few punctures!) Abi Wingate arrived to a fantastic welcome
at Redhall Walled Garden, a SAMH employability service on Saturday
29th October. We are incredibly proud and humbled by Abi's
achievement and so far she has raised over £10,000 for vital SAMH
services as well as raising awareness of issues
surrounding mental health and suicide prevention in
particular.
Abi's
inspiration
comes from her own experience:
"I spent two years trying to come to terms
with my depression. The one thought that lightened my heaviness and
kept me motivated to look towards the future, was my love of
cycling and the idea of an epic journey home by bicycle. No matter how difficult
our life situation is, there are always other options to
explore."

You can read

Fraser Thompson and Family

The family and friends of Pamela Tate have been tireless and
committed supporters of SAMH. They have raised funds and awareness
in memory of Pamela Tate, who, after a brave battle with a mental
health problem, died by suicide in 2009 at the age of 31.
In 2010, a group of cyclists, led by Pam's brother - Fraser
Thomson - cycled from Dumfries to Glasgow to raise money for SAMH.
Backed by Olympic cyclists Graeme Obree and Chris Hoy, Pam's family
and friends have raised over £16,000 for SAMH.
If you would like to support the Tate family's efforts with a
donation, please visit their JustGiving page.
Gerry McGeoch & Derek Morrison climb Mount Kilimanjaro

In the summer of 2010, Gerry McGeoch and Derek Morrison spent 8

friend Carl O'Shea. Gerry McGeoch used the trip to raise almost
£900 for SAMH.
