We are all individuals. We all think and behave
in our own way and react differently to stresses and strains. Some
people might be lucky enough to go through life with hardly any
problems but, for most of us, life has its ups and downs.
Sometimes it can be hard to deal with things, but with the right
help, support and a bit of understanding it can be easier to cope
with the difficult times.
How's your mental health?
Everyone's health is different - both physical
and mental. One way of looking at our mental health is to imagine a
scale that we can go up or down, depending on many different
factors. Life events can be important.
If you're really enjoying life and things are going well you
might move up the scale, but if something comes along to upset the
balance, maybe job trouble, exam stress, money worries or perhaps
losing someone you love, you might find yourself sliding down a
bit.
How we look after ourselves can also be important - if you're
burning the candle at both ends your mind is going to get tired,
just like your body. Moving up and down the scale of mental health
will inevitably happen to us all in varying degrees throughout our
life but some of us might find it difficult to regain the
balance.
We are emotional beings. It's perfectly natural to be happy when
something good happens or sad when a bad event occurs or perhaps
scared when we are faced with a frightening or worrying
situation.
