Throughout the year SAMH works actively in the
field of Suicide Prevention. Suicide Prevention
week (6-12 September 2010) gave us an
opportunity to raise public awareness of this serious and
sensitive issue, in a focussed and active way.
Working closely with our partners, including Choose
Life, we ran events and activities throughout the
week. Click on the links below to find out more.
To understand the impact of suicide and the importance of our
work, please take a few minutes to click on the video below and
hear Maureen O'Shea talking about the loss of her son Carl to
suicide.
Maureen O'Shea's Story
An introduction to SAMH and an insight into the work that we do
including a few words from Maureen O'Shea.

If you have lost someone to suicide, you may find our guide, After a
Suicide, helpful.
On Sunday 12 September, the family, friends and colleagues of
Pam Tate, who took her life in 2009, cycled from Dumfries to
Glasgow in aid of SAMH. Read about their ride and how you can
show your support.
During Suicide Prevention Week, the O'Shea family held the fifth
annual Carl O'Shea Fives Tournament. The family has so far raised
an incredible £50,000 for SAMH since Carl's death in 2006. You can
support the O'Shea family's amazing efforts here.
In Aberdeen, Choose
Life held the second Aberdeen Beach walk in
support of suicide prevention.
At the start of the week, we held a SAMH Training event where we
trained 70 people in suicide prevention.
