On Wednesday 20th July, Real Radio Breakfast Show presenters Cat
Harvey and Ewen Cameron helped us launch our new Glasgow resource
centre.
Cat and Ewen
officially launched the new SAMH centre at 12.30, kicking
off an afternoon of music, entertainment, salsa lessons, face
painting and much more.
Cat and Ewen were
welcomed by a large crowd of SAMH supporters, staff and service
users. And they were joined by
Gaelic radio personality Niall Iain Macdonald, showing off the
eight-metre rowing boat that he will use next summer to journey 3400 miles from New York to his
hometown, Stornoway, to raise an amazing £100,000 for
SAMH. After the ribbon was cut, to whoops and cheers from the
crowd, Cat and Ewen joined Niall Iain on the rowing boat, SAMH
balloons in hand, to be snapped by the press photographers that had
gathered.

Cat said,
"Ewen and I are delighted to be
opening such an important centre for mental health right in the
heart of Glasgow City centre. It will provide a vital service for
people who need to talk to friendly experts. It's fantastic that
there will now be a fabulous walk-in facility open to
everyone".
Billy Watson, Chief
Executive of SAMH, said:
"When we moved our head office here, we didn't want it
to be just another business: we wanted to create a place that would
serve people right across Glasgow. We feel we've achieved that, and
we're looking forward to welcoming people here to find out how we
can help them".
The festivities carried on
throughout the afternoon, with local bands playing live on the
street outside the Resource Centre, attracting quite a bit of
attention from passers-by, a lot of whom dropped in to find out
what all the fuss was about.
The launch, taking
place on the eve of the
Merchant City Festival, marks the creation of a
valuable resource for people living and working in Glasgow. The
resource centre offers information on looking after your mental
health, common mental health problems and the rights of patients
and carers. SAMH's staff and volunteers will be adding extra
services, such as debt management, legal advice and counselling,
over the coming months.
The Resource Centre is
open to the public every day except Sunday, and for the Merchant
City Festival it will be open all day on Saturday 23 and Sunday 24
July.
